Lunar Effect is an alternative materials project inspired by the moon.

2017

Lunar Effect is an odd project to include here.

The project itself was a very different assignment. Make a garment out of an alternative material. I began the top with a bit of lace fabric to shape the neckline and make the garment removable from the dress form I was working on. I then started to glue tissue paper that I had twisted and flared into flower-like pieces onto the lace bodice. From there I attached larger, flared out tissue paper sections for the bottom of the piece, and tightly rolled more tissue paper for the upper back and shoulders.

I say it’s odd to include here because it’s obviously an early project, and not as good as it could have been in any aspect. The reason it is here, is because it required a different way of thinking about construction and materials. I find myself thinking back to this project for future and current projects quite often. And so, I feel that it’s important to include because it’s something that shapes my design process.
